Default Profurl problem

It was blowing 18-20 Kts from the South a couple of days ago, so, of course, I was out on Vermont's Lake Champlain enjoying the breeze. The genoa was reefed down to a third and the mainsail sbout half. Trying to draw down and flatten the main, I guess I put too much strain on the furling line. It parted and instantly I was sailing under a full mainsail, and no easy way to bring it in or dowse it. I was alone and concentrated on keeping the the boat headed home and the sail safe.

My 1995 Passport 47 has a Profurl E-Z Furl system and I had a spare furling line ready for just this situation. But there was a snag - the last coil of the broken line was jammed into the in-mast furler, buried in some kind of black gunk. I could not see how the line was ultimately secured, and did not want to proceed and maybe damage it. There was no download or other guidance on the company's website, and no one at the factory could assist. Wondering whether someone could offer guidance in removing the stub and setting the new line in place? Also, anyone happen to know of a source for old Profurl manuals?. Tks in advance. John.
