Default Splicing Sampson anchor rode with no core cover

I have run into a double braid line that is posing more than the usual challenges. The core of this 7/8" line has no "sheath" but is composed of hundreds (thousands?) of parallel hair like threads. What is the technique to contain the core for a simple eye splice? Tape the entire core/threads as they emerge from the cover? Many thanks.

Doesn't sound like double braid, but more like #3 if this illustration carries over.

Default Not double brais

# 3 image it is. Thank you. Can you direct me to instructions for containing this "core" in order to make successful eye splices?

Now I'm looking forward to Brion's reply. For me the same basic geometry as any double braid works on any core and sheath but with parallel fiber core it's handy to carefully tape and then heat fuse the end of the core making a sort of bullet that can be manipulated without losing any strands. We'll see how the pros do it.

Default Ick

Hi,
If this is new rope, Samson deems it unspliceable (http://www.samsonrope.com/Pages/Prod...20Fiber%20core). If it is antique, they once made a cover-dependent dock line, the splice for which involved removing a section of core so that you could insert a cover tail. Regardless, you are putting all the strength in the cover. For a dock line.
Fair leads,
Brion Toss

Default Samson anchor rode

Brion, Ian, many thanks for your responses and conclusions. This is actually new/never used, in the original packaging from Samson, but older (275' of anchor rode) given to us years ago by a good cruising friend. In attempting to repurpose this line and create splices, I encountered something new to me. We will now go another route. By the way, Brian, the Splicing Wand almost got me to a successful splice with this material, but, what a chore. Thank you again.
