![]() Hello All,
I have 42' Alden that I am going to rig for a self tacking jib and at times a staysail when sailing her in cutter configuration. Ideally, I would like to do something like a hoyt boom that is removable for when I want to set her up for offshore work. For single handed bay sailing I think the Hoyt boom will be great but require a bit more engineering and money. For now I plan on a simple club foot boom and a jib track. I have about 48" of cabin width to use when installing the jib travleler track. Does anyone have any idea about how much curvature I should build in either vertically and/or horizontally? Thanks for your help in advance. JZ |

![]() I installed a jib track without club foot boom.
The track is curved in a plane perpendicular to the stay. Radius is just a little bit more than the distance between track and stay measured in the bending plane. This way the sheet is getting a little bit slack during tack. I have attached "barber haulers" so I can adjust the sheeting angle of the jib and also lock the position of the car. I installed a kit from Rutgerson but Selden have a new kit that looks better. Can post pictures if you like. initially we had the sheet led forward, but now it's going up the mast and down (as it's done on Hanse boats) We have reinfordced the legs after the first pair got bent out of shape. Track details ![]() Track fixed to deck, Barber hauler - with this rig I can haul the sheet out to the toe rail when sailing down wind and adjust the sheeting angle on the sail while going upwind ![]() Sail with standing batten ![]() A better picture of the sail, not 100% fore triangle - but close ![]() Last edited by knuterikt : 12-18-2014 at 03:59 AM. |
