Hi,
Consider untucking one end, sliding on the chafe protection, and retucking. While the rope is out, you could do what you could to relieve the edges of the fittings -- or even to replace them with better fittings.
This problem is not unique to Spectra, of course; many failures of coated wire lifelines can be traced to chafe in the cover where stanchions have cut through the plastic, allowing water in.
