Did you find my earlier posts about this?

Yes - you V-notch the ends of your splice plates to effect a taper

60" is way to long for each splice plate, try 30" or 15" on each side of your joint

two splices is fine.

the MOST IMPORTANT part of all this is that you get a good tight square joint before starting to fasten anything. glue can't hurt.

use machine screws not rivets, splice plate should be next up nominal thickness from your existing mast wall. walk around and find 25 different splices on rigs near you, analyze and average what you see ( length of splice, size and number of fasteners) then do yours that way.

come back if you cant find a way to do it the way all the others are done.
