![]() I'm soooo close.. but I'm having a heck of a time getting this splice to bury.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/deepplaya/3731128449/ I've got the overhand knot on the companion way ladder, I'm pulling on it to the point I had to put gloves in before my hands started to blister. Any ideas? does it look right to you thus far, should I just keep trying to work it or is it good enough? OK... gotta sleep maybe fresh arms will do the trick. ;-) |

![]() either open the splice up again or insert a strong fid in the eye and pull hard on the fid. what has happened is that you did not keep even tension on BOTH sides of the eye while you worked it down to the correct size.
see the way the cover over the eye has bunched up so tight? that is where you lost on this one. either pull it apart and start milking again with even tension on both sides as the bury slides in , or use a strong fid to 'set' the eye right again. this is the stage where many start snapping, yanking and jerking to fix things up. it will probably be easier to slide the splice apart and start again. also using a small mallet to /massage/ the cover where the bury is trying to make the cover bigger will help get splices together.

![]() Thanks Brian, I will try backing out the last part of the bury evening it out and trying again. I also have a couple of guys on the dock who have offered to help as well. I'll let you know how it turns out.
