Hi everyone,

I would like to make a rope strop, 24" long, eye at each end. ½" double braid polyester or equivalent strength spectra, but must have covered eyes. Is there a way to do this? Thanks for any help. David

That’s pretty short; you probably won’t have any luck with 1/2" double braid, not enough room for completing the splice. Maybe make a continuous loop with a end for end splice of something like 3/8" double braid and then seize eyes in each end, - or use 3/16" Dyneema and line the eyes with a heavy thimble...

The eye in my rail is a little low for the genoa sheet snatch block - I wanted to raise the block a foot to get the correct lead. The boat is a 43' S&S sloop.
I will try your first idea as I would like to have a uniform color to the strop - I wonder if I have enough length for the end for end - I'll give it a whirl. David

You might also try a sporting goods store that carries rockclimbing supplies; they sell a variety of 'runners', which are loops of sewn webbing of various lengths (I've seen 4" to 48"), colors and materials. I've used a lot of sewn Spectra runners on my boats as they make a lightweight, low profile grommet, and the load ratings are always printed on a little sewn tag.
