![]() Greetings all, I have just finished a few splicing jobs with double braid and some cantankerous vectran and have once again replaced my snares with new thread, just sail thread and not spectra as that was all I had. Has anyone used fine fishing trace wire? I am think of trying this so if any has had a try please let me know. Cheers.

![]() I make my own snares all the time. Gather up some of those vectran fbers and tightly braid them together. I aim for a thickness of just greater than a piece of dental floss for the finished product.

![]() Hello,
I know that snares do break eventually, but we splice some fairly cantankerous stuff, and get dozens or hundreds of splices out of each one. Aside from twisting, which should be reserved almost exclusively for getting the end started in, and even then most judiciously, massage should be the order of the day. Not only is it easier on the snare, it is also more effetive, faster, and easier, when done correctly. So take it easy on the poor snares, okay? Having said that, I will acknowledge that arborist's rope is beyond cantankerous, and I'm just glad I don't have to splice it often. Fair leads, Brion Toss |

![]() Hi Nick and Brion, Many thanks for the advice. Gentlty does it. Also when knotting the snare I use a figure of 8 with another hitch to make the stopper. I will try the same with braiding some of the offcut vectran. Thanks again, Cheers Jim.
