Bend radius for 1x7 galvanized

At long last I discovered a local source for 3/8 1x7 galvanized rope. My question now is has anyone out there experience with using this material for stays? I'm wondering how those 1/8" diameter strands will bend around a thimble and what's this material like to splice?

I don't have much experience with splicing wire, but I think you want 7x7 or 6x7. I think 1x7 would a chore to splice.

Be careful were you buy your wire (or at least where it comes from) -- all wire is not created equal...

First, you can forget about splicing, at least in any meaningful manner. Second, the wire you have is either quite weak and very elastic (usual), or quite strong but also quite brittle and ornery. Bending radius is the least of your problems.
Wire construction is a matter of suiting steel to different applications. In this case 1x7 makes cheap, adequate guys for utility lines. The requirements are unlike the demands imposed by sailboat standing rigging.
