Loosen rig when hauled in the winter?
Up here in WI, we haul our boats in the winter and typically store mast up. Every year, someone questions if you should loosen the rig when hauled - typically stating material contraction due to low...

Bury
I typically enter my bury a diameter or so down from the brummel. A close as I can practically get into undisturbed braid.
If you entered an inch or so down, I could see that you have two little...

Brummels
I have always used just one locked brummel and a bury. But I form the brummel using the McDonald method.
I have not measured, but the brummel should be no larger than the entry of the bury, both...

Lifelines
You might not like this answer, but I would splice in place - at least one end. Not as comfy as your easy chair, but things should fit better.
The lock is there to hold the splice together during...

Brummel
Yes, the brummel I mentioned is the one that the Mobius construction yields. You can get there a few different ways. You can do it "naturally" if you have access to both end of the rope. You can...

24d is not enough for slippery spectra
24d is a std bury for dacron, you need to develop more friction in slippery and hi-load high mods like Amsteel.
A locked brummel and 72d bury are my standard in Amsteel.

A couple reasons..
I think the reason that most mast tangs are configured a "forks" is because fork terminals on wire are not real practical. You could use an aircraft fork, but they are suboptimal in marine...

mooring chain
I do a lot of dock lines like this.
I use a thimble, shackle the thimble to the chain, and then shackle the chain to the dock.
I typically use 5/8" or 3/4" cordage and 1/2" galv shackles.
I like...

Headstay tension is typically not measured directly because as you mention the furler kinda gets in the way.
Headstay tension is gauged by spar shape and backstay tension, as well as an educated...

There are several ropes in the world that are essentially dacron double braids, but mix in a little high mod to mitigate elasticity. In some cases the "core filler" is polypro versus dacron but that...
