Default Minimim Length Splice?

I have replaced the 1/8" wire halyards on my C&C Corvette with 5/16" Sta-Set X - a major improvement. The issue now is that the spice on the main halyard is about 8" long, and I don't have that room. The tail of the spice jams in the sheave before the halyard is taut, unless I drop the boom unacceptably low.
As a temporary fix I have cut away the splice and replaced it with an anchor bend, weakening the connection. Does anyone know how to properly terminate the line in a very short length?

Roger A Karmes.
