Sta-Set X eye splice problem

No, I haven't seen your splicing video. The explanation of how to pull that splice home really helps and makes more sense to me now.

This application is the standing part of my lazy jacks on my new junk rig. The top end will be shackled at the mast head, and the bottom end will have a line going through as the lower network in the topping lifts. (If I change my mind and make it running topping lifts, I expect to shackle a block on there instead of running a line through it)

I didn't chose Sta-Set X for this application--it just seemed like the best way to re-use workable lines I had from my old rig in my new rig.

Does anybody have a thought about that note in the NE Ropes splicing guide I mentioned earlier?

In step 5, this comment confused me: "Note: It may not be possible to bury the cover tail on every rope. If it is not possible then cross stitch and whip the cover tail to the outside of rope after burying the core." I'm seeing a result like this in some of my splices, but it isn't the cover tail which refuses to bury--in my case, it is the core tail which refuses to bury. I could whip over the tapered core tail a foot back from the eye to cover this.

I may be missing something here but it looks like you have gotten past all the really difficult parts of making a splice in old line and just have to adjust your exit point a couple of inches to allow for the reduced flexibility of the old line. There is little harm in just going further down the line before you have the core exit as once it pulls itself inside, it will find its home. I think what I am saying is move the red line away from the end a couple of inches. There are parts of splicing old line that are very difficult and I think much of what you are reading relates to that but you are not having those problems so don't worry about that. As far as the splices you have made, you have to decide if you have enough core buried and then cut it off (taper it) and let it go back inside the cover. I don't think you want to leave it hanging out. If you don't have enough core buried, start over.
