![]() Brion,
I read your book awhile back and now I'm looking for information for sizing the running rigging. Rope diameter for a given sail area. I have the RM, Sail Area, but can't seem to find the information for sizing the rope for Halyards and Sheets. I was also surprised that you didn't dedicate more time to running rigging in your book, considering that sheets and Halyards take such abuse, Tips and caveats for running rigging would of been nice. Then again I might not find it in the book because I'm looking for it. Joe |

![]() Hello,
Try using Harken's formulas for halyards and sheets, in their catalog. The math is pretty straightforward, and the numbers are nicely conservative. If no Harken catalog is handy, you might try pages 371 and 372 of the Apprentice. Fair leads, Brion Toss |

![]() Brion,
Thanks, I was going back and forth from index to page. Would those figures apply to gaff rigs as well, with their larger mains or does it by some mathmatical magic equal out? Joe |
