Hell of a serving mess

Greetings all,

Here is one for the thinkers. I must serve and tar some shrouds for a 117 year old gaffer in the next few weeks. I'm in Indonesia right now and the access to traditional materials like marline is just not an option. Found the stockholm tar in the trusty Vets supply shop now I need something to replace the marline. Any ideas or suggestions? No quick fixes need apply this has to be a long lasting durable job.
