![]() Hello,
Had a snafu with the foremast on our boat, found a bad scarf of sorts some pics http://picasaweb.google.com/svpapillon She is a gaff rigged schooner Sooo, we have the existing main mast about 52' overall, solid mahogany and in good shape, and the foremast left over the mountains for another life in a house. This has opened up alot of doors as to how we rig the boat. I am considering using the main mast for a foremast and getting a new main mast. I have been looking on the internet with little luck in finding a wooden spar builder in the nw let alone what the cost might be. I know there are some in PT but haven't found any web sites. I have also considered using aluminum ![]() ![]() Any thoughts?? Thanks Jake Has anyone made a glued up spar out of silverbali?? Last edited by SV Papillon : 12-23-2006 at 09:40 AM. |

![]() "... I have been looking on the internet with little luck in finding a wooden spar builder in the nw let alone what the cost might be. I know there are some in PT but haven't found any web sites."I don't know of any mastmakers in PT that have websites, but you might try: Steve Chapin of Point Hudson Boat Shop, 360-385-6863, who just built a birdsmouth foremast for the pinky schooner Pleiades -- sweet stick (I got to help with the glue-up). Bruce Tipton, 360-437-9342, excellent traditional sparbuilder, also in Point Hudson Haven Boatworks, 360-385-5727, or the Port Townsend Shipwright's Co-op, 360-385-6138 "If we stay with a solid spar what is the availablity of suitable wood around here?"Oh, there's lots of suitable wood around here; it's spendy, but it's around... good luck, Lynn |

![]() Exactly what I was looking for. My wife and I met Steve on a visit to Brion's shop last spring, saw the pinky mast beautiful work. We are trying to budget how much various options will cost. I should get that with a few phone calls.
Thanks Jake |
