![]() I have a union 36 cutter and have to replace the mast. unfortunately the original was a wood mast and am replacing it with aluminum and need guidance in the stay layout far as ratios for the lower standing rigging. thanks chip

If a given configuration worked for your wooden mast, the same configuration will work for a comparably/appropriately dimensioned aluminum one. Since we don't know if the wooden mast was optimal, it were a good idea to run some basic mast design numbers (this could be done by you, or by me as a consultation) to determine the ideal aluminum section. You also have the opportunity to change the configuration, and this would result in a different mast section. Either way, get those numbers. Fair leads, Brion Toss |
