![]() OK...I ordered 300 ft. of 5/16th inch samson yacht braid. Now I need to make up the new halyards. Any suggestions on how to pay it out so I don't put twists in the new halyards?
Thanks ![]() |

![]() Maybe I found the answer. Samson says that if the line comes delivered in a coil, it should be uncoiled from the inside so that the first turns come off the bottom in a counterclockwise direction. Reckon this is what I'll do....
thanks again.... |

![]() This is likely too late, but it appears that this rope was wound onto one of those rope merry-go-rounds that make things so easy -- for the person doing the winding. But you have to get your own merry-go-round or similar to avoid twists when you unwind. Pulling from the center of the coil is an ancient and honorable and effective way to minimize twists when you are using 3-strand rope, but it is useless in this construction.
If you are reading this after the fact, your job now is to sight progressively down the rope, untwisting and cursing the merry-go-round as you go. This is why, whenever I buy rope at a chandlery, I tell them just to run it off and dump it on the floor, so I can coil it over-and-under. Fair leads, Brion Toss |

![]() Hi Brion...not too late. I haven't used it yet. The info I got was from the Samson site. Anyway, you're saying I should load it on a reel and uncoil it... I can do that...will make something Sunday.
Thanks for info. Last edited by tanner : 05-16-2014 at 03:07 PM. |

![]() Tanner,
This is where you should watch Saturday Night Fever ( preferably on BetaMax ) In the Disco scene John, "leave scientology alone", Travolta's character, Tony Manero, executes a dance move during his depiction of the Hustle whereby he rolls his forearms around each other. To uncoil your line with least worry and hassle, (but a bit of Hustle) stick the casette in the machine, thread your arms through the centre of the coil with the outer end passing up and away from you, get some one to cut the bindings on the coil, press play and roll away...slowly and carefully. Happy days, Joe. |

![]() Joe, will the sound track on 8-track work as well?
Good tip, not so good movie!...tnx. Last edited by tanner : 05-17-2014 at 03:13 AM. Reason: don't have betamax format. :) |

![]() Tanner,
Yes the 8 track cartridge player movie sound track will work as well as any other, but you may have trouble getting in and out of the AMC Pacer with the uncoiled rope. Joe. |
