Default How do I serve a braided eye splice

Hi,
Last time I posted brion told me to splice the braided line before serving. How is the eye kept open and under tension to do this? Would it work to serve the portion that will become the eye, and then splice, and then serve the rest?

Been doing some research.
underhill's book masting and rigging calls what I want to do a cut-splice.
Also heard brummel splice is only 70% strength of line. Does anyone have a resource showing percentage strength for various splices?
puget sound rope recommends the 432 tuck splice over the bury and stitch splice.

Underhill also mentioned shrouds go on spars before stays.

Any input would be welcome.

Jim
