Default What's with the spam?

This site will attrite an already low membership if more moderators are not put online to continuously get rid of the spam. In addition, is there not a method to better prevent spammers from making contributions? How are they getting past the necessity of logging on?

Thanks in advance,
Rick

Default 'bots and keywords

The term "toss" is a sexual keyword for masturbation, and twigs all the spiders and 'bots (which are programs which interact with websites as though they were a person using a browser) that every page in this site might be valuable as a place to spam with pornography advertisements.

The 'bots are programmed to automatically interact with many common/popular types of websites, such as vBulletin forums. In many cases this interaction is designed to circumvent spam detection/prevention methods. In order to limit spam, website operators are forced to either make it onerous for real people to use the site (most commonly using various "captcha" technologies, such as those annoying images of twisted text/numbers) or live with a steady stream of spam. The question is how much annoyance will force readers away, versus how much spam will force readers away...

In my opinion, however, the forum should avoid sending out daily digests which include deleted spam messages.
