Default Brummel eye splice - does order matter?

When making a Brummel (Brummell?) eye splice in HM line, the tail passes through the standing part and the standing part passes through the tail. Does it matter which of these passes is closest to the eye?

Yes, the order does matter.

If you are doing the brummel using both ends of the line, the its tail through standing, standing through tail , then tail inside standing. If you go the other way you get no locking hitch, which is the whole point...
