Splicing Sampson anchor rode with no core cover

I have run into a double braid line that is posing more than the usual challenges. The core of this 7/8" line has no "sheath" but is composed of hundreds (thousands?) of parallel hair like threads. What is the technique to contain the core for a simple eye splice? Tape the entire core/threads as they emerge from the cover? Many thanks.
