![]() I am currently rigging my Nor sea 27 with a Solent stay. I'm looking for ideas for a mast fitting. A rigger I spoke to recommended a Stemball fitting. Would this be appropriate? What other options would be acceptable. I am circumnavigating the pacific with this boat and will be primarily using this stay for a storm sail.
Thanks in advance for any helpful info! |

![]() Hello,
The stemball is my least favorite terminal; too many failures, and it might not articulate adequately for this application anyway. I recently installed one for a forestay, and even though I warned the owners about its vulnerabilities, I feel less than happy about it. In that case there was an existing tang, and no good option for an alternative. But if you are starting from new, I'd see about installing an actual tang, shaped to the mast, preferably involving a throughbolt. About as good, and much easier to install, is the one from Selden:http://www.seldenmast.com/files/595-054-E.pdf. Fair leads, Brion Toss |
