Default Broken Mast

The chainplate on my Pearson 303 failed and subsequently the mast broke ~4' above the deck. The rigger I'm working with is planning on splicing a new section of ~12' to the longer of the two pieces to keep the mast length the same to avoid recutting the mainsail. Is there any reason that I can't raise the foot of the mast on the keel to make up the difference in length? The break was very clean and the material lost due to the break will be ~6-8".

Thanks
Paul
