Default hayn fittings

I have used sta loks in the past but went with the hi mods for re rigging my ebbtide 33 for many reasons (i will post them if anyone is interested)

I have two questions about the assembly of the hi mods
1. My wire is 1/4 the terminals are 6mm (the terminals work for a couple similar sized wires) and when I assemble them the cone goes on snug but easily by hand. the ring on the other hand will not go on without some kind of mechanical advantage and are hard to adjust and remove. is this normal?

2. when the terminals are assembled and the eye is screwed down there is a sizable portion of the threads still visible (just over half of the thread length) this seems a bit much normal? any ideas?

Default Hayn's

Hello,
The tight rings are a tolerance issue, and Hayn, with their uncommonly excellent customer service will swiftly replace what you have if you want, but you can also just ream the holes out a touch, so they slide on easily. Remember, the ring is just there as a spacer, and to align the yarns; the hole size is not critical. Also bear in mind that you might have an odd-size wire core. It happens.
As for the threads showing, Hayn will be able to tell you for certain if this is normal for this size wire. One of the consequences of using one terminal for more than one size wire -- and this is true for any manufacturer -- is that the terminal will be more closed with some sizes than others. Of course, this is assuming that you cut the wire square, and that you are not pushing the wedge down any further than the ring dictates.
Fair leads,
Brion Toss

i jsut want to second one of Brion's comments.

CUT THE WIRE SQUARE.

many will use felco or other wire cutting tools for mechanical terminals. while this is sort of acceptable on sta-lock and norseman fittings, with the hayn it is not. really all of these fittings use pushing against the end of the cable to form the wires over the cone, or in the hayne to locate the cones positon versus the end of the wire.

we use a high speed grinder and a .040 cutoff wheel to cut the wire off square. its fast and correct.

enjoy
