Default Aluminum mast damaged

Hi how are you, just looking for some input and advice. I have an Etchells and earlier today another boat, out of control, hit my boat and slid up on the deck punching a hole roughly 1.5 inches diameter in my aluminum mast. I'm curious if there is a possibility of this being repaired while still keeping the integrity of the mast suitable to sail. I have not seen the damage yet but i'm told the hole is only a few feet above the deck. If you have any suggestions or advice I would be grateful.
Thank you in advance,

Default Unlikely to be trivial

Hello,
We'd need to see pictures, but it doesn't sound good. A hole that big isn't the issue; halyard exits are much bigger. But I'd be amazed if the hit didn't create a dent or crease much bigger than the hole, and that could be a big problem. Also, any force sufficient to punch that hole could easily have impact-loaded other components. Be very, very careful with this one.
Fair leads,
Brion Toss
