Hi,
If this is new rope, Samson deems it unspliceable (http://www.samsonrope.com/Pages/Prod...20Fiber%20core). If it is antique, they once made a cover-dependent dock line, the splice for which involved removing a section of core so that you could insert a cover tail. Regardless, you are putting all the strength in the cover. For a dock line.
