I've been looking into HM rigging. I've been considering milling my own deadeyes out of 1/2 inch "Seaboard - Polyethylene". I've been building small fittings with Seaboard and it machines nicely.

I'm interested in the kind of knots to use. Bowlines seem to work lose. I use buntline hitches which work well, but are hard to untie. Rolling hitches seem to slip also.

I find the modified brummel...

I plan to convert my lifelines and I am interested in...

Just an idea, but could you add a shim under one side to bring it around? Maybe a couple of washers. I do not know what the compression load is and if this idea would cause that section of the mast...

That picture shows the yankee up, not the 135.

I wish I had it up the other day. We were casually sailing around Lake Union, but the fireworks barge takes up the center, leaving two slots to sail. ...

How much does a stay sail really add?

I've got a 32 foot cutter. This year I removed the stay sail, boom and stay. Tacking my 135 genny through the slot between the front stay and stay sail stay is difficult. Removing it also frees up...

Removeable cutter forestay

After seeing Brion talk at the Seattle boat show this year, I've been thinking about making my forestay removable on my 32 foot cutter.

I've seen the ABI Forestay release levers, but was wondering...

I learned and have always done it with the Samson guide using Fid's. I've done about 10 splices without any problems. Just follow their guide.

HM standing Rigging. Why use DeadEyes?

I've noticed people using DeadEyes instead of turnbuckles when switching to HM standing rigging, like Dynex Dux 75.

Why can't the original turnbuckles be used?

Chris
