If you have a lot of work up there, maybe. You still want to secure yourself to the mast and the sit-harness will get you as high as at all practical. Perhaps you're using a bo'sun's chair where the actual connection to the halyard is more up by your sternum and thus too high.

I've found that if I adjust my foot-loops that does everything ergonomicly that a pair of steps could do.

But your secure comfort is most important.
