If you have access to a vise, clamp the terminal between the jaws unscrew the fitting. Then screw it back on three turns.
Remove the terminal from the vise and clamp the wire between the jaws about two inches from the fitting.
Put a wrench on the fitting and turn it hard in the direction that would tighten the lay of the wire. While holding the pressure, whack the end of the eye or stud with a steel hammer and the fitting will usually pop free.
Then unscrew it again, slide the terminal back and cut off the end of the wire, wedge and all.
In my experience, this method is quicker, easier and causes less damage to the fitting than cutting the wire off flush and driving it out with a punch.
