I think I have it...
When my old rig was in place and tuned, I measured the TB pin-to-pin lengths (I had jaw-jaw TBs). After I dropped the stick, I duplicated the pin-to-pin length of each wire in my new hardware and wire, after deducting for constructional stretch. Everything fit perfectly! Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe it years of Brion Toss mentoring...
So to terminate in place, you pull out the caternary (and fine position the mast) with handy-billys and measure from an arbitrary datum to the chainplate. You take this measurement, less the centered TB length and less both tuning and constructional stretch.
Sounds easy enough, not sure where I was confused...
