Securint the Eye
Using instructions from "The Riggers Apprentice", I spliced thimbled eyes into some lines. Knowing that thimbles tend to work out, I tried very hard to ensure that the thimbles were snug in their new homes. What tips can be followed to better snug the thimbles and, is it appropriate to place a palm whipping below the thimble to better secure it? Thank you.

yeah, you can use a stout whipping or seizing to better secure the thimble. Follow the instrutions on page 9 for a round seizing if the eye is so big for that to work.
Some times you might use captive thimbles or serve over the thimble and eye to make it really secure. |
Brian,
Thanks for the confirmation. I worked hard to get these tight, but it seemed that under strain, stretch might become an issue. Thanks again! Mike |
