Deadeye lanyard tool for "freshing the nip"

Here is a tool that works GREAT for tensioning lanyards. It has an offset in the handle so your knuckles don't get skinned when using it. I made it up for tightening the lanyards on the Lady Washington during her rig construction just after her launching in 1989.

And in action:

Here is a little rigger's riddle:

What is forward on the starboard side, aft on the port side and inboard all around???

Answer - A Matthew Walker knot

Always make sure the the hauling part of the lanyard is on the standing part of the stay or shroud not on the turnback or working end if spliced.
This puts the Matthew Walker or other stopper knot under the dead end of the stay or shroud.

that is a better looking tool than the one we have been using this side... a conduit bender from home depot : )

it is a bit cumbersome though.
