bail for asym

I have our rig down for painting and wiring. I also bought a asymetrical spinnaker. I would like to add a bail if I need to.

I have two normal headsail halyards free. Would these be fine?

What size bail do I need. The boat is a heavy displacement westsail 32 with a luff length of about 44 feet.

Who sells these things?

Thanks

Rich

Bails?

Hello,
Do you mean a crane to hang a spinnaker block on? That's the platform on top of the mast that projects the block(s) forward and to the side, to clear the jibstay. We get local fabricators to make ours to suit each boat, but a good sparbuilder should be able to turn one out for you. You'll probably want one that holds a single block, well forward and angling outboard, so it can fly on either tack without snarling up in the furler. Make it strong.
Fair leads,

like this?

Should it be 5/16ths or 3/8ths for my westsail? Does this look ok from the photo?

Thanks Brion,

Something like that

Hi again,
The bail shown might do, but it looks a lot like the ones we see bent sharply down after hard use. Maybe the heavier version would resist that, but I'd prefer to see a heavy section with an upward angle to it. Also, the version shown might not be amenable to setting at an angle on the masthead, to get the block clear of the furler.
Fair leads,
