How much thread is enough?

What is the minimum amount of thread to reach full strenght on a turnbuckle. I have 5/8 turnbuckles and have 1 1/2 inch thread each end. I seem to remember that 1 1/2 times the thread diameter is enough but I think that was bolts. That would be about 15/16 in my case. Anyway I am interested in what info you have to share.
Thanks
Bob

The good manufacturers know what they are doing. Once the studs are screwed in far enough that you can pin them against turning, you've got it. You only have trouble if you have not engaged all of the barrel's threads. There's no added strength to exposed thread that I know of.

I'll second that...

If all the threads in the body are engaged, you are covered. Extra exposed threads won't buy you anything, assuming that you have enough to pin.
