Eye Splice Help
Had no problems splicing dock lines over the years... Been having a terrible time trying to do some eyes in some 1/4" line I got for some adjustable genoa cars. Took me over an hour to safely work my awl into the core. Can't seem to open the cover enough to get the core out. Really mangled the core and cover on my first try. Don't want to loose any more line with to many more attempts. Here's a picture of the line so you can see how tightly it's woven.

Hm
Hi,
That appears to be an HM-core rope; if it is, it takes a different splice. What brand and model is it? Fair leads, Brion Toss |
Line...
The line is Blizzard 6mm from Lanex.
http://www.lanex.cz/en/cruising-line-blizzard Polyester core and cover. Double braid construction. I'm giving up on this line for the genoa adjustment. But, I'm going to keep practicing with it to see what I can learn. I'd still appreciate the feedback on what to do to work with this line. Thanks |
Cover too tight
Hi,
From a glance at the website, it states that 'Blizzard' has an extra-tightly woven cover. It is designed to be hard to get into, which probably makes it all but impossible to splice. I'd be inclined to cut it up into convenient lengths for lashing, and get a double braid designed for splicing--NE Ropes' Sta-set is my favorite. Ben |
Maybe...
Hi again,
From what I can see, this is not Blizzard; that has two tracer colors in every color, and is much more smoothly made than what you show. Where did you buy it? Fair leads, Brion Toss |
Blizzard source
I purchased that line though Nautos-USA out of Florida. I've used some of their blocks and they have seemed to hold up well. When buying the blocks for my adjustable genoa cars I saw they had a sale on this line. Figured it was one less trip to get everything for this project and ordered it. I'll look again when I get home from this work trip but I believe it has both the yellow and white tracers that the Lanex page shows.
