STS-WR2 eye splice

I am currently replacing my lifelines with New England Ropes STS-WR2 5mm Dyneema. The cover is so tight I am having a heck of a time burying the core (or even a fid) while splicing. I have a copy of NER splicing instructions but they are leaving the core exposed at the eye. Is this really the best method? Thanks in advance for any help.

No

NE has directions for a splice that keeps the cover on. I've used them with great success. However, to bury the cover is extremely difficult, so what people do is hide the cover end under a whipping or a Turk's Head. I have pictures of some of that on my own boat, visible on my website zartmancruising.com

The core alone has the strength needed, so when I did the splices on my boat, I did not worry about getting the core all the way to the splice. This was especially a concern with the fittings I chose, as the eyes had to be larger than needed to get the pieces through the locking splices. I haven't had a problem with this, and the service sounds like a good idea.

The splice I chose was this one:
