Stay-Loc's at deck level or at top?

I'm re-rigging a Baba 40 and would like to use Sta-Lok's for one end of the wire shrouds. Is it better to use the Sta-Lok fittings at the deck level and swage fittings at the top or the other way around? Years ago I was told that the constant exposure to salt washing along the deck is not good for swages so the Sta-Lok's should be at the deck. But, someone recently told me that this thinking has changed over the years. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

You're both right

Indeed there tends to be more corrosion at deck level, but note that mechanical terminals at both ends mean you can, if you remember to, invert the wire at its half-corrosion-life, thus prolonging its safe working life. People rarely actually do this. Sta-Loks or similar at both ends are also cheaper in the long run, as you don't need to buy any terminals when it is time to rerig.
Mechanicals are handy at the bottom end if you need to turn up the bottom ends in place, post-stepping.

Thanks, Brion,

I think I'll use the Sta-Lok's at both ends if the cost difference is not too outrageous compared to swaged fittings aloft.

Price

That is key. Hunt for the optimal discount. These terminals are sold in a amazing range of prices. And do check on Hayn's. And do check with us.
