end for end dyneema splicing
 

What is the best way to splice together dyneema with cover and uncovered?

The lines below are: warpspeed II (3/8" diameter, about 1/4 or 5/16" dyneema SK-75 and 3/16" AS-78 dyneema standalone).

Hi,
Depends what you mean. Not much data available on ultimate strength, but we hope to have that soon. It is a good bet that, with sufficient bury and careful stitching you can get 100% of the smaller line's strength just by sticking it inside the large one, then whipping the large one, sliding the cover past, and whipping that down to finish. Tuck the large one into the small and you will weaken it some amount. Tuck the cover into the small and you will weaken it a lot. How much? How about you make up some samples to break? Please?

Yes, I'll send a sample. If you don't mind, will also send a few other splices to break to know what to expect.

The main consideration for me for is not weakening the splice when it goes up and down a block or sheave. Strength is secondary - I'd be happy with 10-20% reduction in strength.

Not sure what to do with the cover in this case, though.

Is there an end for end splice that has some sort of a lock instead of relying on stitching? Stitching is subject to chafe, etc., especially if used on blocks.
