Continuous rig?

In a previous thread, the terms continuous and non continuous rig were used.

Can someone explain to this novice what they mean and what is the difference.
I did not see anything in the index of The Rigger's Apprentice.
Thanks.
Bob

Disco Rig

This term refers to the cap shroud (or intermediate shroud) being continuous from masthead (or intermediate mast tang) to deck or terminating at the tip of the lower spreader, and a second wire coming from the spreader tip to deck, thus discontinuous.

The upper wires can be tensioned with a turnbuckle or setup dead with no turnbuckle.
