Mast electrical coverplate / mast wireing

Does installing an acess plate at the bottom of a deck stepped mast in any way, weaken the mast section? Or better yet, does anyone know of a SS tube with a 90 degree sweep, to install outside the mast, and have the wireing exit the side of the mast, then go up into this "swan neck", then down into the deck. Make sense? Any source or more info on this? Thanks,Zach

access plate - rock on, depending on the boat size of course, the size of cut out will change. We just did one on a PS37 with a 2.5" by 4.5" oval cutout with aluminum cover plate same thickness as mast, that is 1" larger in each dimension using (IIRC) 10 #10-24 PHMS to fasten it securely.
