Boom vang mechanical advantage question

Over on another forum we've been having a lively discussion about how to determine the mechanical advantage of a boom vang. This link is to a pic of two different vang setups. The only difference between the two is the direction of the tackle is reversed. What is the mechanical advantage produced by each?

Thanks in advance!

Mechanical advantage

A= 8:1
B=10:1

I'll agree with Mike.

Both are 4:1 tackles cascaded in a 2:1 -- resulting in 8:1 for A and 10:1 for B, since B is rove to advantage.

Hey Bob, nice to know that you agree with me. How are things with you? I'm as busy as I can be. It took a couple of years until the reputation built up but now when someone asks about someone to work on a boat, my name always comes up.

Hope things are well with you.

Cheers,

MikeR

Really?

Hello,
A lively discussion? About that? It's sort of like having a lively discussion about the difference between, oh, 8 and 10. What kinds of things are people saying?
Fair leads,
Brion Toss
