Hi,

I am in need of replacing my standing rigging for the Loos that I have on board that was installed in 1996.

What would you recommend as the best or highest quality wire rope available today?
How would you rate Loos? And Suncor?

I could not find any reviews on wire rope at practical sailor and there is no comparative information available online. It could be that I didnt know how to search correctly. Would someone comment please. Thanks

When inquiring as to the origins of wire rope, ask where the strands are made as well as the wire. Some wire is being brought into the US as strands from China and being wound into wire rope here-which is then sold as "made in the USA". There are huge quality problems with anything stainless from China. Avoid it like the plague! Korean wire is the best in the world at this point-bar none.

Thank you for pointing out the inferior Chinese wire strands being imported into US. That is my concern too.

We really like to buy Loos, but how do we find out if Loos is importing strands from China? Any comments on Loos quality? Is it still as good?

I use and trust 1x19 316 SS from Sailing Services (www.sailingservices.com). I think Brion can you sell you this wire directly at competitive prices if you are in the NW neighborhood.

At one point the wire was Korean, not sure if it still is. Call and talk to Brooks Jones (the owner), he knows his wire and sources and can give you the straight scoop.

I did a boat a few years with Loos (at the owner's request) -- it was miserable, dirty wire.

Loos is the culprit. It is being done to be used for US government contracts and combat price-pressure from the Korean mills. "Made in the USA" can mean no US content, just assembled here in the States-what a bunch of crap!

BTW, use and trust just about anything from Brooks or Brion. They are a rare commodity in today's world. Honest, thoughtful, and seriously knowledgable.
