Field guide

Thanks for all the feedback Bob. I have to claim ignorance, I do not see the field guide you are refering to anywhere here on the site. Could you guide me to it?:)

That would be the working rope #5 book. Look under books in the catalog.

Sorry for the poor reference...

Yes, that is book #5 -- you'll find no finer reference.

For a taste, check out this link -> http://www.briontoss.com/education/BTR_book.pdf. These are excerpted instructions for a double braid dacron splice.

BTW, nice photos...

Bob

O.K here is my first attempt's, I used a brummel per the precourt web site, and plan to order a bunch of Brion s books for the next phase. The Dux is really wonderful stuff. 1/6 the weight for more strength. No more turnbuckle, or tangs or corrosion, or, or.....

Oh, how do I post photos, I have them on file now.....  .?

...:-)

O.K. these are my first attempts at splicing and gettin the stuff checked out. I have hoisted the backstay with the main halyard, to get it out in the Mexican sun. I will be gone fishing for 6 weeks or so. I am stoked about this stuff. hope you all enjoy the photos and please shoot your ideas in......:)

Couple questions for Brion..

I have a few questions on the usage of these deadeyes.

1 - How many half hitches is enough? Have you done any testing or have any feel? Knots in the slippery 12-strand makes me nervous, but it seems to work...

2- I used the Precourt deadeyes just once (coincidentally in a backstay). To deadend the lashing to the deadeye I used a multiple brummel and short bury, is there any suitable knot?

Thanks,

Bob
