I am researching possibly setting up my Pacific Seacraft Flicka with a stays'l to convert her to a cutter using a "Solent Rig" I have heard about. It supposedly is widely used in Europe, but I can find little about it. Any references/pictures as to how to rig this to my existing sloop for incorporation of a staysail?

why do you want to make this change ?

The stay goes from your bowsprit just in front of the stemhead, to about 5-6' down from your masthead, and if I remember correctly you will need also running backstays. you should call pacific seacraft.

Dear Key,
I believe a cutter to have a stay farther aft than the solent stay. The solent stay will carry a larger jibsail and is not intended to be used while a jib top or yankee is flown off the headstay. I have seen them set up quite far forward and very close to the masthead something like a 15/16th fractional rig placement. In most cases the solent stay is not parallel to the head stay. In that case running backstays would not be required.
All that said, a Flicker is a 20 something foot boat and all this extra rigging may get in the way.
